firmus energy outline construction plans for Ballymoney


Gas mains laying work in Ballymoney Town Centre is due to begin as part of a programme to extend the natural gas network in the area. firmus energy and their contractors, McNicholas have engaged with local elected representatives and plan to engage with local residents and businesses on their plans, which will bring the benefits of natural gas to a further 350 properties in Ballymoney town centre.

As part of their ongoing engagement firmus energy have organised an information evening in Ballymoney Town Hall on Thursday, 20 July between 5.30pm – 8.30pm. firmus energy and representatives from McNicholas will be there to answer any questions or allay any concerns that local residents, businesses or elected representatives have regarding the works programme.

Ryan Krammer, Network Engineer for firmus energy said:

“As a result of local interest, these works are necessary to progress the extension of our gas network. It will allow us to bring the cost and environmental benefits of this energy source to more homes and businesses in the area.

“We have engaged extensively with Transport NI and agreed a provisional traffic management plan for the duration of the work to minimise disruption and ensure the safety of the general public and our own operators. We will continue to liaise with Transport NI and update them on progress of the work should changes be required to the plan”.

The construction will begin on the 17 July, working in phases, and completed by Halloween. The traffic management plan will include a series of managed road and lane closures in the town centre. These will all be clearly sign posted with diversion routes in place. These include:

  • 17 July 2017 - Victoria Street, Ballymoney lane closure with rolling traffic lights for a period of three weeks, both High Street & Towhead Street will be open as usual.
  • 07 August 2017 - Linenhall Street, Ballymoney, lane closure at pinch point with Main Street for a period of two weeks.
  • 21 August 2017 - Charlotte Street, Ballymoney, road closure and diversions in place for a period of three weeks.
  • 11 September 2017 - Church Street, Ballymoney, road closure and diversions in place for a period of two weeks.
  • 25 September 2017 - Main Street, out of hours works with possible road closure for a period of three weeks.
