Cream of the Coast – Causeway Women Shine Bright at Women in Business Awards
Published on:May 1, 2025

The Women in Business Awards celebrates the hard work and achievements of the businesswomen driving Northern Ireland’s economy and transforming communities.

Now in its 13th year, almost 500 delegates gathered for the ceremony in Belfast’s Crowne Plaza Hotel and amongst the winners were three Causeway women: Jayne Taggart, Martha Garbe and Grace Smyth.

Taking home the coveted Businesswoman of the Year award, CEO of Enterprise Causeway, Jayne Taggart, made history as the first ever non-profit/non-governmental organisation recipient – testament to her 30+ years championing entrepreneurs across the Causeway Coast and Glens.

Owner and Distiller, Martha Garbe, started Basalt Distillery over lockdown with partner James Richardson; applying their meticulous scientific approach to distilling – creating incredible flavours and high-quality spirits. Their flagship product, Giants Basalt Rock Gin, is inspired by the basalt rock that filters the water from their own 600ft bore hole. Martha snagged Young Businesswoman of the Year.

In just 20 months, Grace Smyth has built Forge Female Fitness into a Ballymoney success story, with over 100 members. Highly Commended in the Small Business of the Year category, this accolade adds to the growing list of awards including Gym of the Year NI, Health & Wellbeing Business of the Year NI and Great British Entrepreneur of the Year NI.

From gin to gyms, and game-changing leadership, these local ladies are proving the Causeway Coast doesn’t just have stunning scenery – it’s home to some serious talent! A fantastic achievement, placing North Coast female entrepreneurship firmly on the map.
