Buzz n’ Berry owners Mackenzie and Ethan have plenty to celebrate after being named Coffee Shop of the Year and Best Young Person in Business of the Year at this year’s business awards. We sat down with Ethan to learn more about his journey, his reaction to the wins, and what becoming a
Chamber member means to him.
Buzz n’ Berry’s story began during COVID in a way many would never expect with no business plan, no roadmap, and a leap of faith. Ethan was just 19 years old, working in hospitality. One day, sitting in the kitchen with family, they casually started looking online at coffee trailers. When a yellow trailer appeared locally, they went to view it “just to look” and ended up buying it on the spot.
“That same yellow trailer is still the one we use today,” Ethan laughs. “After we bought it, we sat there thinking, what have we just done?”
At the start, Ethan continued working full-time while his partner became the face of the business, juggling coffee service by day and part-time work at night. What began as a simple coffee trailer quickly evolved into something more a community-focused space offering coffee, food, and baked goods all in one place, inspired by the idea that families shouldn’t have to compromise when eating out.
One fun fact many customers don’t know is that Ethan now does much of the baking himself. He took it on around a year ago and quickly discovered a passion for it. “Putting music on and baking away, it’s something I genuinely love. When people come back and say how good something was, that’s a great feeling.”
Winning both Coffee Shop of the Year and Best Young Person in Business was a proud and emotional moment. Competing against established businesses, Ethan says he entered mainly to get Buzz n’ Berry’s name out there. Hearing it called as the winner was something else entirely.
“The awards aren’t just for me,” Ethan stated. “They’re for the whole team. The staff work incredibly hard, especially when it’s busy, and this showed them that their effort pays off. Without them, we wouldn’t have won, simple as that.”
Becoming a new Chamber member has also been a significant milestone. For Ethan, it’s about being recognised as a serious business owner and helping put both himself and his business firmly on the local map.
“There’s still a stereotype that young people won’t last in business. I’m here to stay. Being part of the Chamber shows that I’m not just a young guy making coffee, I’m a businessman building something long-term.”
Looking ahead, Mackenzie and Ethan are excited for the future, while keeping Buzz n’ Berry firmly rooted in its home community. With passion, hard work, and a strong sense of community, Ethan Price’s story proves that age is no barrier to success and that sometimes, the best journeys start with taking a chance.
This week on the 15th January 9am- 10.30am we will be hosting our very first ‘Cuppa and Catch Up… ON THE ROAD!” in partnership with Buzz n’ Berry. We would encourage everyone, members and non-members to come along and be part of the Buzz!
