Chill Foodhall has been named Retailer of the Year at the Causeway Coast and Glens Business Awards 2025. This recognition is a testament to the business’s commitment to adaptability, innovation, and exceptional customer care since its founding.
The journey began 17 years ago when owner Michael, alongside partners Brian and Sean Mullan, established a food manufacturing business. A customer’s request for own-label products eventually reshaped the business model. Today, their Ringsend factory supplies 30 independent retailers across Ireland with bespoke chilled products, strengthening local retail by ensuring each shop offers a unique range.
Chill Foodhall officially opened its retail doors in 2013. Despite early challenges, the business has grown organically to offer an extensive range of fresh meals catering to various dietary needs, including gluten-free and low-calorie options. By manufacturing to order, Chill provides a nine-day shelf life—significantly higher than the industry average—allowing for better meal planning and value for customers.
Local sourcing remains a priority, with partnerships including WD Meats, Rockvale Poultry, Fresh-to-the-Door, and Carolanne’s gluten-free bakery. This commitment supports over 100 local jobs and reduces environmental impact.
At the heart of this success is store manager Barbara and her team. Known for their “can-do” attitude, the staff maintain genuine relationships with the community, often going as far as making informal deliveries or performing wellbeing checks for vulnerable customers. For the team, this award is especially meaningful because it reflects the direct feedback and loyalty of the customers they serve.
In addition to this achievement, Chill Foodhall has recently valued its membership with the Chamber, providing new opportunities for collaboration and supporting the wider business community. After more than a decade, Chill Foodhall continues to lead with a focus on people, purpose, and quality.
