Celebrating 50 years of Ulster University, Coleraine
Dear Chamber Member,
Ulster University has been marking 50 years since its foundation in Coleraine in 1968.
Causeway Chamber has been actively engaged with Ulster University since 1967.
Reflecting back to old Chamber Council minutes Chamber was engaging with University personnel then to ensure that local traders were given preference when seeking tenants for shops, banks and post office within the University site.
In 1968 the then Coleraine Chamber provided a donation of £200 to enable the University Endowment Fund to provide facilities outside the normal functions of the University. Chamber Members Bishops Footwear and Moores of Coleraine actively encouraged the Chamber to support and welcome Ulster University to Coleraine and gained support from traders to support the students by providing concessions.
This year 2019, Ulster University in tandem with partners Garfield Weston Trust, Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council and the Honourable the Irish Society, are creating a piece of public artwork which will reflect the University’s unique and continued contribution to the local area.
This artwork which Ulster University has named ‘Towards Tomorrow’ will be designed by and for the community under the direction of visual artist Sara Cunningham-Bell. Part of its plinth will have bas-relief insets created by pupils from schools within the Causeway Coast & Glens Borough, as well as several members from the local U3A group, resulting in an artwork that truly spans generations.
The sculpture will represent the strong collaboration of stakeholders in the greater Coleraine area and initiate a renewed commitment to genuine ‘town and town’ for the next 50 years.
In keeping with the long tradition partnership, we would be delighted if you would help Causeway Chamber to support and be part of this really exciting project.
Causeway Chamber has been asked to provide sponsorship totalling £2,500. In order for this to be truly inclusive of our membership we are asking Chamber Members to support us and this exciting project by making a pledge which will secure Causeway Chamber’s name on a plinth recognising the history and connection over the past 50 years.
Every member that contributes £50 or more will receive a certificate and feature in press release to acknowledge contributors.
Many thanks for your continued support.
