Commonwealth Day 2016

On the 10th March Stormont held an evening to celebrate Commonwealth and International Woman’s Day.The theme for this year’s events was ‘An Inclusive Commonwealth’.

Chamber Member Karen White from Maddybenny on the outskirts of Portrush delivered a speech on being a woman in business and being integrated into the local community.

Coming from New Zealand 18 years ago was a huge step for the young family, but they were coming home to be with Fred’s family.

In 2006 after the sudden passing of Fred’s mother Karen took over the running of Maddybenny Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast and Self Catering Cottages. It was a steep learning curve to take over an established business but with family and local support Maddybenny has expanded.

Maddybenny comprises of 8 self-catering cottages, bed & breakfast, camp site and livery yard.

There are a lot of similarities between the two countries!
