its4women signs sponsorship deal with Cathy McAleer - NI’s only professional female
Online car insurance brand its4women has announced a two-year sponsorship deal of Northern Ireland’s only female, professional boxer Cathy McAleer as she embarks on her journey to win a world title.
A former world karate and kick-boxing champion, Cathy is an experienced athlete, who made her debut in boxing in November 2018.
Kerry Beckett, Marketing Manager for its4women, discusses the sponsorship of Cathy McAleer, and her imminent world title bid:
“Our ethos is one of empowerment, to help everyone realise their potential. Cathy McAleer is already a world class athlete who wants to be a boxing world champion. We believe she has got what it takes, and as a world class insurance provider we want to help her achieve her goal.
“Cathy made her boxing debut in November 2018 and is eager to move through the rankings. She has a very strong, experienced team working with her. Coach, John Breen, is one of the best and Cathy is flourishing with his guidance and direction. its4women is proud to be supporting Cathy on the next step of her journey to a world title.”
Cathy was due to challenge former world champion, Ellen Simwaka, for the vacant Commonwealth Title on Friday 25 October 2019 in Belfast. However, the fight was cancelled earlier this month and the team is in the process of agreeing a new date and venue.
Discussing the sponsorship and her world title goal Cathy McAleer says:
“I’m delighted that its4women is joining me on my journey to another world title. As a brand they seek to empower women and that’s something I truly believe in. Sport and fitness should be a priority for everyone. A healthy body helps to maintain a healthy mind and when the two are in balance, you can achieve great things.
“I started off playing team sports such as soccer and Gaelic and then got involved in other fitness activities. I played A league badminton for six years, took up karate and trained to be a Black Belt karate instructor and now I’m a national coach for Northern Ireland. I also got involved in kickboxing and my passion for it led to me competing at national and international level. I’ve won three world champion titles for different sports, but I’m not sitting still. I’ve my sights set on a world boxing title and with the support of its4women I’ll achieve it.”
Cathy’s current aim is to compete and win a commonwealth professional boxing title. Her long-term aim is to win a fourth world title in boxing. A former world karate and kick-boxing champion, Cathy is an experienced athlete, who made her debut in boxing in November 2018. With three world titles in Karate and full contact kickboxing, Cathy drew for a fourth world title in K1.
Cathy adds: “I was disappointed when I found out that the fight scheduled to take place on Friday 25 October 2019 wasn’t going ahead. I’m not going to let this delay put me off. I’ve invested a lot of time and energy in my training programme. I’m physically strong and I’m prepared to travel to make the fight happen. I hope to make history as the first lady to fight for a commonwealth title belt.”
