Proposal of 3 major planning applications in Bushmills

‘Planning applications are being prepared for submission to Causeway Coast and Glens Council for major developments on the outskirts of Bushmills – the developers have prepared the applications for discussion and public/ community consultation.’

Proposal of major planning application for car parking and realignment of Causeway road/ Runkerry Road, south of the Nook 48 Causeway Road, Bushmills BT57 8SU



Problems with insufficient car parking and heavy congestion in and around the World Heritage Site are well documented. The existing facilities are wholly inadequate for a tourist attraction of this nature.

This proposal seeks to provide additional covered car parking adjacent to the World Heritage Site. To facilitate this, and to improve the existing circulation in this heavily congested area, it is proposed to reconfigure the existing road layout. The proposed new roundabout on Causeway Road in particular will ensure that traffic in and out of the existing and proposed car parks will have much improved access onto the main network.

A coach park is also included, as coaches currently park on the public road, causing significant congestion.

The proposed covered car park has been carefully designed to be assimilated into rather than being superimposed upon the landscape in order to ensure its integration with the environs of the World Heritage Site.
