Trainee Commis Chef – Bridge to Employment programme
Would you like to get started in a career as a chef? If you love food and would like to learn to become a professional chef, there has never been a better time. Chefs are in demand – so it is a great career to get into!
Causeway Chamber of Commerce members, in association with the Department for the Economy and the North West Regional College, have developed a five week Bridge to Employment training programme in the basic skills required to work as a professional chef.
Participating members are a combination of hotels, restaurants and hot food outlets. In Portrush, there is the Adelphi Hotel, and the Atlantic Hotel. In Coleraine the Lodge Hotel is taking part, along with Moran’s Retail at the Riverside Centre and Moore’s Department Store. In Limavady, the Roe Park Resort is participating. No matter where you live, there is a business close to you. If you complete the training programme, you will be interviewed by one or more businesses in order to get a job in their kitchen.
The course starts in the middle of May and runs for five weeks. You’ll attend college at the Limavady campus of the NWRC, where you’ll learn your skills in their state-of-the-art facilities. You’ll also get practical experience of a professional kitchen on work placement with one of the six businesses – you choose which one!
