US Consul Visit

Ian Donaghey MBE, President, Causeway Chamber of Commerce in association with Gregory Campbell MP was delighted to welcome Daniel James Lawton who assumed his duties as American Consul General in Belfast in July 2015 to Coleraine on Friday 11th December.

Most recently, Mr. Lawton was the Deputy Director of the Office of Southern European Affairs in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs at the U.S. Department of State.

The aim of the visit was to showcase local businesses with American connections and to inform the Consul General that the Borough of Causeway Coast and Glens is open for business should any opportunities present themselves.

The visit commenced with a meet and greet at the Mayor’s Parlour located at Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council headquarters. This provided an opportunity to meet with Mayor Michelle Knight-McQuillan, Chief Executive, David Jackson and Paul Beattie, Head of Service Prosperity and Place to hear about Council’s Strategic Plan for the area and the opportunities for Foreign Direct Investment.

The delegation visited Nicobrand Ltd who is recognised globally as a pioneer in the manufacture and supply of nicotine active pharmaceutical ingredients and AVX Ltd a leading worldwide manufacturer and supplier of a broad line of passive electronic components and Interconnects.

The visits concluded with lunch were participants shared their experiences regarding America and discussed possible ways of further cooperation between Northern Ireland and America.
